I agree with Ernie too. I build an FL14 from exterior ply to save a couple hundred initial outlay, but I will use something better next time. Mine didnt come out like a pig, but it was alot of loving care.... :D

Thanks for the responses on the plywood. Like Ernie said, the FL12/14 would be a learning experience. When I get to the HMD19 I would be using BS1088 for that boat. I want my other half to be on board with this, so keeping the cost down a little helps. Besides, if I make a bad cut I can always build a dog house (not necessarily for the dog) :D . Also, the FL should be easy to transport via car-top (SUV) rather than trailer.

it's like putting perfume on a pig.... in the end it's still a pig!
Well put  Down south we'd say you can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear.

OK, so let's jump forward 9 years. I completed the boat up to painting stage back in 2008. It then took up space in my garage leaning against the wall until last week at which time I finally found the time to start painting. Finished that today and hope to see this project in the water within a couple of weeks.
Will try to post a picture when in the water.

Thanks for the kind words guys! I was very happy to get it launched and take it out for a successful first run. Now time to get it dirty!

I can't believe you got that close and then waited almost a decade to splash her. This is a puzzle to me.
Looks good, very good.
I have to agree with the others on materials.
