And that's a damn sexy tiller you made. Lil Bit will be jealous.

Yes a nice looking tiller is the best thing you can give your boat. And Tony even if your guests do not give a groat when you show it to them you showed it to us in this forum and I am sure all of us 39564 friends who saw it love your tiller. When I saw it I knew I must make a similar tiller and till now I still think it is the nicest part of my boat. Jaysen I am looking forward to Monday to see the first picture of your tiller blank and wish you all the best with it.

Bear in mind, as I'm sure you do, that the main purpose of my post was just to give you guys some grief, not actually criticize. Use a piece of pipe for all I care, and build on! :D

Grief was certainly received. And muchly appreciated. but I'm still going to act all offended and stomp my feet until someone validates my feelings and forces you to cut 30% off your tiller so it can be redistributed.

I just may have had a bad conversation with someone over lunch...

Karl, I make no promises. Other than "I will consume adult beverage at some point this weekend." ;)

We all know that I just can’t do it!! Stupid must be done!

Karl, adult beverage consumed. Twice. I got an early start today.

Here my bad plan...

Rip scrap 3/8 into 2.25” wide strips. Done
2682

Make them less dirty. Done
2684

Show the plan to others and realize it’s stupid. Done
2683

2685

I think I’m going to just some scrap SS and make a normal bracket. Heck even 1/4 aluminum would get it. That means I’ll make the tiller 3x3/8 lamed with a squared end for tiller bracket and I’ll taper and round it to about 1.5 for human contact point.

Thoughts?

New plan.

3 layers of 3/8 with aluminum strap for bracket. Tiller will be oval at 1.25x1.75. Just need to decide if long is up or down.

Going to make for a good story if you figure out a way to break that tiller

On a 12’ boat with a small sail I’d have to be doing something stupid. But, as I told Tony, that’s my speciality.

That said he did convince me to use aluminum or stainless plate over wood. So the chance of a good story are being lessened.

Ol... 10mim with a portercable power plane and we have 2, 39” blanks ready for shaping.
2688

3x3/8” Meranti laminated with fast
2” height
Expected length will be 34” each section
One will remain square for bracket mounting
Bracket shims will be used on rudder side.
Could not deflect them standing on them (210lb)

Should keep fuzzy bored with my adventures on sailing.

Happy birthday Jaysen!

Hope you are given presents of some boat building time and some tailing time.

It's nearly 5 o'clock Monday here in Noosa, so I'm about to raise a glass or two of red to toast you. :D
