Ishmael,

At the very worst case, you have a pattern for cutting a new panel. My guess is that Jacques will tell you it doesn't matter what side th kurfs are on. RJ

I responded by email: as you receive them the grooves are not finished.
You must cut them all the way through with the panels on the jig.
We can not ship and you can not handle panels withe slits cut all the way through, they are too flimsy.
For that reason, we cut only half way through and do not cut the ends.
With the panels on the jig, you have to cut through the grooves with a jig saw and extend that cut all the way to the end.
Procedure:
- with the panels flat on the floor, extend all groove lines all the way to the end end and cut those ends (about 6") with a jig saw.
- on the panel that will have the grooves on the inside, drill small holes through the groove all the way through, every 10". That will help you locate the groove.
- install the panels on the hull. They will not bend perfectly.
- to conform the panel (shape them), with a jig saw or a small circular saw, cut all the way through the grooves starting with the long slits only. That will get you close to the proper shape. Cut through the shorter grooves (slits) as required until you are satisfied with the bow shape. When the panel is at 1/4" or closer to the mold, it's fine.

The pictures of the TW28 built by Broomside show the perfect bow shape despite the fact that he choose to cut the slits the other way.
Our Turkish builders have cut lengthwise as in the kit and also obtained the correct shape.

I will post the latest pictures if I can remember how. I can tell you that the panels cut with the kerfs facing in are much easier to shape than the panels cut with the kerfs facing out but with alot of effort and a little invention we are making progress.

Ideally, we should have alternate kerfs: one in, one out.
If one cuts all the way through, that means slits instead of kerfs, the bending happens very easily but it takes a little more work to keep the "battens" in place while applying putty.
