Jack Plate Compatable?

Post by LSUred » Fri Oct 28, 2011 12:59 pm

I know next to nothing about outboards. This is the motor I'm looking at, and I plan to mount it to a jackplate. Now I can't tell, but this lip on the mount looks like a clamp style mount to me. Will this work with a jackplate? I was under the impression that you need to just through-bolt the motor to the jack, so i don't know if this will even work.

Thanks, Baron

If the tilt bracket has holes for bolting the engine to the transom then it will bolt to a jackplate as well. All the engines I have seen have a lip that slips over the transom. Only the lower HP engines actually have clamps. I cannot tell from the pic if the bolt through holes are there.

You do not need them, you will mount the motor using the bolt holes.

I have the same motor and the clamp screws are actually in the way, I should have cut them off.

you can sort of see it here...

Shine does it interfere with the performance of the jack? those bolts looks easy enough to remove, that lip looks forged though

no, but I do not move mine up and down. With 4" of setback the bolt come about 1/2" from hitting the transom.

Pretty sure that you can saw the clamps off, they perform no function if you have the bolt holes.

Do you think that would affect the warranty?

Warranty covers mainly mechanical parts, no problem, or check with your dealer. leave enough to form a hook over the plate. I was going to cut mine off if they interfered with anything.

probably not, but it doesn't really matter what we think :) I would contact the dealer from whom you plan to purchase
