Fiberglass upscale cx25

Post by PNWcx25 » Thu Oct 05, 2017 2:20 pm

I'm at the point where I need to order fiberglass, since I've upscaled the boat 9% one side of the hull is 50". The plans Biaxial, fabric 50" wide am I correct to assume I need to upscale the width of the fabric to 60" also.

I have never seen glass that wide but maybe it is made. Sounds like you will need to use more than one piece

Fuzz is exactly correct, you should just should stay with the specified cloth and cut it as I don't think there is a biax over 50" wide!! Jeff

Correct. Wider glass exist but it is very rare. Overlap the 50" strips, each overlap is a stiffener, stronger than a single wider layer.

Thank you all.

Should I start at the center of Hull extending the fabric 25" each side or off set the fabric 6" from center and work out from there.

If it were me I would overlap the keel 6 inches each side. The keel and the chines are the two places that will take the most abuse so they need to be strong. Keel is the backbone of a boat and it is hard to have too strong of a backbone :D

Just repeating what he said, those overlaps are the fiberglass skeleton of the boat, very important.
Thank you Fuzz.
