That is one reason I was given. The other thing is with a solid colour it turns out not that solid, especially when sprayed on. The wood grain and colours of the timber show through a lot, even after 7 or 8 coats. I know this as I did several colour trials as well and then received subsequent advice, albeit after I'd gone ahead and made a mess. Primer coat gives an even solid single colour on which to do your colour coats. Clear coats are just clear so as long as your colour coat looks good, so will the clear. There didn't seem to be any immediate problems with adhesion, but the colour was awful. I have a peice of ply with red auto paint that's been sitting in my back yard next to the boat shed in the sun and rain for 9 months and apart from the aforementioned awful colour, it's holding up fine.

Peter, you're welcome. I hope it helps and you get a nice finish.

Joe, The sail has been measured, marked and cut. My friend will now get stitching! Hopefully it will only be a matter of days or a week, maybe two...

As soon as she has a sail I'll be heading to the lake to try her out and will post a plethora of pics.

She's still not in the water, but I took her out into the yard for some nicer photos.

Absolutely beautiful work. Like the smile too! Enjoy it and posts some numbers when she's sailing. Looks like she will scoot along nicely!

Thanks guys!

Bit of a set-back regarding my sail. The guy who's making it for me is in hospital, looks like he'll be out of action for a while. So at this stage, I'm probably going to order a bateau sail, hope they're in stock.

I'll post sailing pics eventually.

Take care all
