Launching Lemonaide: Cheap Canoe

Post by Dougster » Tue Jul 24, 2018 11:43 am

Well here's launch day for little Miss Lemonaide. He she waits impatiently for me to go:

Yes, she floats, but can I get in her w/o tipping over?

Well, glory be, I can :D

I proceeded to catch a massive 6" bass on about the fifth cast, but, while holding it up for the camera man it flipped off before he could take the pic. Later on I caught another bass that was little bigger than the Mepps spinner I was throwing. No more action but two hours in the canoe was a joy. Not too tippy and with a double paddle she goes with ease. Tracks well enough with the double paddle so no need for a keel. A single paddle, sitting in the middle wouldn't do as you are not in good position to make a good J stroke. She paddles backwards with ease.

I enjoyed my Plyak, but for my use, little Lemonaide is lighter and better. Good times here and better on down the road I'm hoping.

Good work, Doug. Light and stable is all good! How much does it weigh?

Thanks fellas, she does seem a kick. In some ways you get a lot of bang for your buck the more simple things get. No motor, light enough to pick up or at least drag around, no trailer. It adds up to not much trouble. Thirty minutes to load up; ten minutes to the river, ten to put in and climb in. Fiddle around for an your or two, then home and things put away by 10:00am. Simple enough that I end up doing it more often. Also, it's the first time I've used a truck bed extender, and boy I like it for the same simplicity reasons. 'Course it's hard to beat a big boat on big water with big chance at real fish too.

Totally agree with you Dougster. Next best thing is a really simple skiff with a tiller steer, rope start and a portable gas tank. They get used more and have lots less headaches.

Terrulian---took me a while, but I got Miss Lemonaide weighed today. She came in at 46 lbs. It bespeaks her trim figure.
