SH14 CB in CB Case - How does it stay in

Post by MWhiting04 » Thu May 16, 2013 8:33 pm

Sorry but I have another dumb question.

How does the CB stay in the case.
I know the bolt that goes through and the sleeve on the inside of the bolt.
But when the CB is fully dropped it can just slide off the sleeve.
Did I do something wrong?

It seems like with water pushing it backward it will just come off the sleeve.

Do I need to put something over the gap to keep it place?

Or does it just stay in because of the weight?
Help.
Mike

Did you ever get a reply to this question? I have been wondering the same thing as I build my sh14.

Guys, if Jacques does not respond back on this question today, I will ask him to review tomorrow and respond back. Jeff

I missed that one.
Don't be afraid to ask twice or complain :)

The CB is ballasted with lead, that is how it goes down. It stays in with a pivot.
Yes, in some of my boats, I show the pivot going through a slot but the length of the painter is limited. It can not go dwon all the way and it can not jump out of the slot without hitting the top of the CB case, that means it can not fall off.
But, if you want to clean the CB or if it gets stuck with gravel, you undo the knot, let it go down further and then pull it out. Clean it, put it back, knot etc.
