VG18 question

Post by Bogieman » Tue Jan 23, 2018 10:48 pm

One of the things that appeal to me about the AD16 is that it can be rigged and sailed by one person. Is this also the case with the VG18? I have the plans for the AD16 and I really like it, but lately I can't stop looking at the darn VG18.

Thanks

Bogie

The VG18 is a bigger boat and has a heavier mast.
With the boom and some tackles, anybody can raise a mast. I had such a system on my 41' boat with a 51' mast.
Or, in the case of the VG18, two persons.
I prefer to use the boom.
The mast sits in a hinged mast step. The boom is set up vertical, forestay form top of mast to top end of boom. Shrouds in place.
Mainsheet tackle from end of boom to bow fitting. Pull on main sheet, mast come. It is easy.

Here is a video:

I have no idea why the guy in the video uses a 2x4 when he has a perfectly good boom that can serve the purpose.
