C12 bottom sheet cover

Post by tonguc.rador » Thu May 03, 2018 6:18 am

Dear All,

I understand that if I am opting for the full bottom fiberglass covering for the C12 I do not need to use fiberglass tape to the outside
seams.
Am I correct?

I am guessing if you use glass cloth or not and the plans say to tape the outside seams then you tape the seams.

Ok. Yes it requires the tapes on the plan. I somehow overlooked a note.
Thanks.

OQ, on some of the smaller boats JM says "tape the outside or glass the bottom" (not in the plan, but on the forums). A lot of that has to do with use as well (my v12 was an or until we starting talking about the use a particular idiot would have and he said something to the effect of "yeah... you should tape and glass because you aren't right in the head")(he was much nicer about it).

Tonguc, I'd wait for official response from bateau, but given that this is NOT a motor boat I think you'd be ok IF you are using biax cloth. Biax tape creates stronger seams than woven due to the way the fibers run. You would not want to use heavier woven (lots of extra weight) and biax is a PITA to fair. It might be able to find a compromise position of lighter tape and lighter fabric and working wet on wet have the best of both.

Maybe. Like I said... I'd wait for an official response.

The NC16, just tape inside and out. Cover everything with epoxy.

You still should tape, but maybe a lighter tape if you are going to cover the hull completely (with a light cloth). But wait for a JM or Jeff.
