Epoxy Filler Powder Blended Filler

Post by Capt UB » Sun Dec 03, 2017 8:27 am

BBC's
Epoxy Filler Powder Blended Filler

Phenolic Microballons and Silica Thickener pre-blended at the correct ratio for a non-sagging filleting/fairing compound. We do not recommend this mix for gluing.

Why not as a glue? If you can use it as Filleting compound.

So this also, works will as a Fairing compound?

The wood flour for glue and filleting?

Answered on other thread. Micro balloons are weak. Think about failure modes with tiny glass bubbles vs tiny wood particles.

Excellent for fairing.

Glue can be wood flour or silica or other solid filler. Fillets can be anything including micro balloons but you but if you use micro balloons you’re flirting with disaster IF the fillet will be glass covered and/or is structural. Think bulkhead vs light fixture.

Microballoons are used as a filler because of their lack of density, which makes them easier to sand, and also weaker, as Jaysen says. I would never use them as a thickener for a structural glue joint, which doesn't generally need to be sanded, except to clean up excess, as it is connecting two surfaces.
That said, as an experiment I once glued a couple of pieces of scraps together using epoxy thickened with microballoons. I could stand on it, and I'm fatter than I was in my youth.
