Systems 3 primer

Post by fallguy1000 » Tue Jun 16, 2020 5:57 pm

Well, what a day.

We primed the cabin with Systems 3.

Not a big fan.

It really went on thick and then it liked to run.

If I tried to thin it out with the roller, it bubbled bad.

Got it done. Gonna be a lot of repair.

I thought s3 was water thinable. Should be on the side of the can. I know I thinned it with something to make it less goopy.

I tried to say something but God thought I was wrong and filled my mouth with saltwater. I kept my pie hole shut after that.

Yeah, double check the can. I had none of those problems. If you don't notice anything I'd call System Three to see what's up.

They are not big fans of me. Long story, but not calling them.

Maybe a 2nd coat will also perform better?

Does it dry OK? I mean, if I remember when it's dry you can lick your thumb and press it on the paint and nothing will come up. After that you'll sand any runs and re-coat. I myself was surprised that after one coat, there wasn't really heavy coverage, as your photo shows. I think I did three coats, sanding runs or flubs and nothing else in between. After that, a guide coat of graphite and then sand out the high spots and apply again. Rinse and repeat. The end result was good.

Dryin okay. I just could not lay it down thin without bubbles. And those bubbles left eyes. So it went on thick, ftmp.

You are trying to put on too much primer in one coat if you are getting runs and bubbles.
Also, S3 primer doesn’t need to be thinned.
When you are priming, circle back and tip the sags with a brush before the primer dries.

Also, (comment not directed at you) I cringe when I see guys spend hundreds of dollars on high quality coatings and try to apply them with shitty brushes and rollers form Walmart or Lowes.
When I’m building, I stock up on a variety of high quality, solvent resistant rollers and brushes. I use Corona brand mostly...
