Puzzle cut panel length

Post by seapete » Wed May 23, 2018 3:40 pm

How much if any length do you loose when you buy the plywood with Puzzle joint cut ends?
If you joint two together do you still get 16' ?
thanks

Seapete, the short answer is yes as long as you use Okoume BS1088 Marine Plywood. Give me a call at the shop, 772.770.1225 or my mobile 772.631.4665 and I will provide you the long explanation!! Welcome to our Builders Forum!! We have great members/builders so you can get plenty of help and assistance as needed!! Again, welcome, Jeff

Seapete,

Have you built with the Puzzle joint before?

Was a first for me on my FS14. Definitely the way to go.

What are you going to build?
FS14, getting wet soon.... LM18 (Laguna Madre Skiff 18). Plans, plywood and supplies, in hand. Late summer build 2018/19 build, This is a beautiful designed boat.

Thanks Jeff.
Going to start a PG20 Panga.
Already built a OD16 Dory with standard ply
finished a paddle board with puzzle joints, the build was much easier.

If space allows consider the PG22. More boat for little more cost, and runs on the same hp just about.

My guess having never used them yet:

Metric plywood is about 4" longer than 8ft. So as long as the puzzle is 4" or less you can still use plans designed for 8ft sheets.
