Using some leftovers to make a Yeti style cooler that will reside in the bed of my truck.

Interesting. I've been thinking about doing the same.

I'm watching.... 8) 8) The lid is the key and I can't wait to see what you do there...
Is that 1/4 inch ply? I have a full sheet of 4mm from Hermine's build.

Yeti took a quality nightmare and turned it into a dream.

Good luck. I keep fixing my igloo or coleman, needs rope handles now!

So if building a cooler what foam will do the best job? And how thick does it need to be?

I would recommend 2" R10 pink foam minimum to two layers maximum with a nice light ply glued on it and you can glass the inside with 12 oz or higher to avoid leaks. The R10 pink has no shear, so abrade it fully with 36-40 grit paper and coat with thixo and let it kick and glass over gelled thixo. Or, if you have marine foam or plywood; you can sandwich the foam in with foam glue in the plies and glass the inside plywood...

My fishbox is sort of like that. I used marine foam on the thru hulls in the box...just cuz they all wanted 1/2" amd the drain of a cooler is no different really. The handles won't behave well in pink foam under loads; you have to keep them in the ply.....

Cape Man,

Laura and I are definitely wanting to go to the boatbuilder’s get together in September. We had a great time when we were there the last time. I have it on the calendar. Just waiting on her calendar to confirm. Not sure about bringing my Brother’s boat since it is up in Virginia now. Maybe, I’ll bring our canoe this time.

Not sure exactly what I’m going to do with the lid and gaskets just yet.

I’m planning on using one layer of the 2” pink foam on the top, bottom and all sides. A 4’ X 8’ sheet only cost $29. Was also thinking of using some left over two part flotation foam, but wasn’t sure I had enough.
