custom design?

Post by clawsonrods » Wed Sep 09, 2009 9:43 pm

is it possible to get plans drawn up for a 34-38 foot carolina custom? requirements:
1) 34-38 feet long
2) twin diesel inboard or inboard outboard
3) express style helm and largest cockpit possible
4) Full head
5) single forward cabin and small salon/galley
6) not to be trailered will be moored in slip
what would the cost be for full plans and bill of materials? I have a tractor trailer to pick up materials and transport boat from my workshop to boat yard as i used to drive truck before starting my company please let me know
thanks sheldon

Sheldon, Jacques doesn't do much in the way of custom plans, but there are myriad other designers around that would be more than happy to take on the project. Expect to spend at least $2000 on a complete set of plans, which would be a bargain for a boat that size.

Correct, I can't accept design commissions. I can not keep up with the design of new stock plans.
However, if you find a plan that you like, I can adapt it to our material.
In that case, purchase the plans and I will work with you to specify scantlings, building jigs etc. for our materials.
I will do that for free as long as you buy all the materials from BoatBuilderCentral.com.

Spokaloo,

$2000 for a custom design of a bot that size seems very cheap to me.. are you sure of that number?

$20k for a design like that from a NA, at least

You may be able to find a stock plan for a few thousand or so. That would not be a detailed plan but the hull dimensions, offsets, engine and tank location, etc.

There is not really a market for a stock plan of that size, most people that will build a custom boat like that will have their own design commissioned.

Look at this:
http://www.gerrmarine.com/power_50.html
Gerr 34 Sportfish

I don't know how much he wants for that plan. Probably between $ 2,000.00 and 3,000.00.
Let us know.

A custom design will easily cost 10K.

On Gerr site it said 8 percent of the cost of the boat but i think that was for a custom design.
