GV17 or OB17 for skiing?
GV17 or OB17 for skiing?
Okay, I´ve got the GV17 plans and may get the OB17 plans, too. Which one of these would make the better pleasure ski boat? I´m not looking for a performance ski boat, just something to play around with, fish, explore, cruise..... Awhile back in the old forums, it was said that a fin might be needed. Anyone have any thoughts on that now? Or would the small V that these have be okay for that without the fin? I would rather not have to put one on. That´s why I´ve been looking for a little more V. They both look like great boats.
Thanks.

[ This message was edited by: BillyV12 on 27-08-2002 00:23 ]

hi billy,
i say build the gv17 because then you have more deck space, but i really don´t know anything about boats.
You're already there.

I do know about pleasure ski boats and the gV17 would make a slightly better "pleasure" ski boat than the OB17. Key word slightly. I think that seating will be more condusive for observers, and more space to "stretch out" ans relax. I skied for years from a Boston Whaler 16-6 which is very close to the GV17. It won´t be a fishing limiter either.

Forgot, I don´t think a fin would be needed if you´re not doing competitive skiing. If a strong slalom skier starts pulling the transom around too much, one could be added. But it wouldn´t be required unless this bothered you.
Jim

Jim,

Thanks for your ideas. I think that´s the answer I´ve been looking for. I never paid attention to what I used to ski behind. Whatever somebody had that ran.

Thanks again,
Billy
