Port A XF 20

Post by Dr. Pete » Sun Jan 13, 2019 9:43 pm

Have started my XF 20. I will get some pics happening when I can schedule my office assistant to facilitate that menial technological task for me. Truth is I don’t have a clue how to do that. This is my introduction to the forum and apologies in advance for your tolerance. I have been trolling for 2 years. Just got things in place to start and my build so far has gone really great. I have seen and learned so much from looking at all the postings here. May be when I get some pics up there will be something I can contribute. Never have seen posted or shared a “wetting” table for tape. Place tape for a seam on a work surface, roll it with epoxy, flip and roll the other side then position on the seam that is being built. Finish wetting and rolling out there. The tutorials by host staff are great. The people in the trenches are where the rubber meets the road. Thanks!!!!

Welcome to the group Pete, Don't feel bad about the lack of computer skills. I think my first build was almost finished before I posted a picture unassisted. I actually had to email my pictures to Jeff and Reid, and they were generous enough with their time to post them for me, or perhaps it was just their insatiable desire for more boat porn. I'm so pathetic, if my wife and son are not home and I hit the wrong button on the TV remote I have to call the cable company. Actually have the number on speed dial.... Aripeka Angler, AKA Richard, built a spectacular XF 20, and I'm sure he'll be an invaluable source of info as you proceed. Good luck with your build, and you can get any child over about the age of 5 to help with the picture downloads. Mike

Great to see you started your build thread Dr. Pete!
There have been a few guys that have talked about their "wetting tables" on the forum. But everyone has there way of doing things.

I know Fallguy uses a wetting table and rolls his wet tape back up on a tube, making it easy to unroll where he wants it.

I only had to wet 12oz. tape so I would wet where it was going to be laid and then lay out the dry tape and wet over the top of it. Made it easy to "stick" the tape down and it stay. But had to re-wet the tape after the first pass soaked in.

Good luck on your build and looking forwards to pictures!

I use a 3' wide roll of 4 or 6 mil HD plastic as a tablecloth for tape wetting. We roll them onto cardboard tube sections and unroll on the seams. Prewetting of plywood IS vital to avoid dry sucking the tapes.

Mark the tapes well for where they need to go..

If you do any topside seams; they can be made with 12 oz tapes if not specified by the designer.

The chronology of the pics obviously backward. Never out of the 40’s today or I could schedule a splash. My neighbor Dougster is on standby to help with the bottom layup in a few days. Road goes on forever and the Party Never Ends! Pete
